“The deepest satisfaction of writing is precisely that it opens up new spaces within us of which we were not aware before we started to write. To write is to embark on a journey whose final destination we do not know.” -Henri Nouwen
Last week I wrote this post about how I am over building my platform. I was really shocked by the response to it, honestly. I had no idea so many writers feel the same way I do about platform building! I’ve been thinking all weekend about what it could mean for us, really, to approach our writing differently.
What would it really look like to write beyond our platform? How could our writing life deepen if we live centered in a quiet and holy place? How does God define success and failure in our lives?
I’ve decided to do a series of short video and written posts to help us find our way. It will be one part bootcamp, one part spiritual journey.
The hope is that this journey will help us find our way to a revival in our writing life.
Here in week 1, I talk about how I got to this place of longing for that revival, as well as the first step to take if you want to write beyond your platform and redefine success outside the traditional lines of numbers and followers.
Cheers to all my fellow writers. I’m praying for us, for revival and for God to lead us deeper into His own words over us.

I love this post so much! Thanks for speaking out and reminding us Who any book we write is really for. It’s so refreshing to read something like this rather than all the “sell, sell, sell!” how-to’s out there.
