written on the wall

Home » General » written on the wall

We rearranged the boys’ room a few weeks ago. It’s a temporary fix in stage one of my goal to better organize and fit three boys into one small room. Eventually, we will have triple bunk beds made, but for now, it works.

Boy 3’s mattress ended up camping out on the floor right under a large framed piece of art. He was a little afraid to sleep under a giant sheet of glass, and when we pulled it down the wall was bare and empty.

I decided to paint a quote there for the boys; something to remind them that they are more than just three kids.

I wanted them to walk into their room and remember that they are heroes.

I considered several quotes, but it came down to two:

“God is preparing His heroes. And the time will come when they will be revealed, and the world will wonder where they came from.” -Tozer

“Even the smallest person can change the course of the future.” -Tolkien

I chose the second because the boys are Tolkien-obsessed, and it seemed so fitting to have his words scrawled across the wall. Besides, the Tozer quote was probably too long to fit.

I pulled out a level, some painter’s tape, a pencil, a paintbrush, and some paint.

I marked a straight line with a few tiny dots and then used the tape as a guide.

I penciled the letters on the wall, careful to keep them the same size and shape. You could also use a stencil to trace the letters if you wanted a less free-hand look.

Then I removed the tape and traced them with paint on a tiny brush.

The last step was wiping off any extra pencil marks.

Boy 3: world changer:

I was really only thinking of them when I started the project.

But every time I see these words, I am thunder-struck again with the knowledge that these children of mine will one day grow up and change the world.

It is no insignificant charge to parent people who are growing into future heroes.

Not one of us has to live a small life. All who choose to be brave and live by faith are heroes. Even the smallest of us can change the world.

After all, the writing is on the wall….
