the day we got in a car accident

Home » General » the day we got in a car accident

Friday afternoon someone crashed into our van while we were driving north to Dallas.

My terrified children cried and begged to get out as our car limped off the highway.

“It’s going to be okay,” I kept saying.

Boy 3 practically shrieked, “HOW? How is it going to be okay?”

Oh, my deep-souled son, I long to answer that so that your heart will be at peace. The answer to this question takes years of tasting God’s grace and mercy to erode the fears we carry.

“For now you will just have to trust Daddy and me, sweet boy. It’s going to be okay.”

Later that night I stood in the steam of our shower, trying to wash the stress of the day away.

Stress feels like a gift when I consider the possibility that the grip of grief could have been our lot in a worse accident.

Our car can be replaced or repaired. The precious cargo we carried in our back seat was irreplaceable. I kissed all four children goodnight in their own beds, my heart full of gratitude.

God never left us alone there on the side of the road. His hand of provision and blessing was close and full for us.

The man who hit us had Popsicles in his car, and handed them out to our children.

I looked up after we pulled over and saw the Salado Public Library. The children and I spent two quiet and comforting hours there in the air conditioning as we waited for the tow truck to arrive.

Mr. Fantastic talked for three hours with the man who hit us. They spoke of faith and God, children and wives, mercy and grace.

Life is messy. God is near. It’s all going to be okay.

We hold fast to our faith, enduring the storm, and await the revealing of His glorious plan.

Oh, glad you are all okay! This accident could’ve been a lot worse. Fortunately, it wasn’t bad and you were all safe. Did you take legal actions against the person who hit your car? You have the right to make a claim, and if you believe you can pursue a case, a lawyer can help you go through the necessary process. @ The Spence Law Firm, LLC

Car accident can be such a traumatic incident for children. I hope they were able to recover from this mishap. How is the car now? Were you able to get the insurance claim you deserve?

Your car was badly hit, Carrie! Though it was a nerve-racking experience, I'm glad you managed to stay calm for your children. It's been four months now; did you file a case against the offender? I sure hope he/she was responsible enough to fix the mess that he/she did.
