In him our hearts rejoice,
for we trust in his holy name.
May your unfailing love rest upon us, O Lord,
22
even as we put our hope in you.
Psalm 33:21-22
And now these three remain: faith, hope and love.
But the greatest of these is love.
1 Cor 13:13
The four of them dug and piled sand for hours. Piles, protected by trenches and walls were called “castles”.
As the waves rushed up and wiped away their effort they yelled and laughed with joy. Then they fortified their castles again.
It is funny to watch these workers delight in this work-game that is doomed before they start. The joy was in the doing it together.
These were piles of love they were building.
This is life, though, isn’t it? Our effort and labor will one day disappear as a vapor. But the love is what will remain.
As I pile up the sand of my day I will rejoice in those around me. I will worry less about how well I am doing, how easy it is, or whether or not my piles are as good as someone else’s.
In the end, it’s all about the love, and I don’t want to miss it.
