There has been a lot of talk around our house lately about seeing God. Not so much the children, but Morgan and I seem to come back to that topic a lot. This past Sunday, Morgan spoke about how we live in between God’s rescue and His restoration. As Christians, we are redeemed and set free, and awaiting His return.
But what do we do in the meantime?
In the meantime, we are messy. We get angry and fight. We see bits and pieces of people’s lives and we judge. We love so much we look past too much, or we believe so deeply we offend. Life is messy. Earth is messy. We need healing, knowledge, freedom and love. This place is one of constant turmoil. Every day challenges us to grow more, to be more, to learn more. If we don’t grow to meet the need the mess piles up even more.
It’s kind of overwhelming.
Tonight, though, walk outside and look at the moon. It is big and brilliant and beautiful. It is not the source of light, but just the reflection of a greater light. The Sun is so bright that you cannot look directly at it or you could blind yourself, but the moon can be gazed upon for hours. The Moon rises when the world needs it most, when the Sun is hidden. It would never be seen if not for the Sun.
I believe, in a way, we are the moon and God is our Sun. Were we to look on Him directly, the Bible says we would surely die. He shines through us so we can reflect His light and love to the world. People see God best in other people. They understand who He is best the actions of the ones who follow Him.
Cherish the ones you love, cherish the people you see each day. Be the moon in their mess. May gentleness be on your tongue, honor in your heart and kindness in your eyes when you speak to them. May God make His appeal through you. And I hope you find the very same for yourself in them. Well lit lives are worth living.
Let’s all shine on.
